Your notes never reach us.
The short version: we never receive your notes. Here's the full list of what is kept, and where.
Your notes
Notes, pictures, versions and settings are stored in your browser on your device (IndexedDB and local storage). They are not sent to us. If you choose a folder, notes are also written there as Markdown files.
Locked notes
A locked note is encrypted on your device with a key made from your password. We never have the password, so we can't recover it for you. Keep your recovery code safe.
Things you turn on yourself
- Google Drive (if you sign in with Google): notes are copied to your own Drive. KnotJot asks only for access to files it creates, not the rest of your Drive.
- AI summaries: if you add your own key for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or OpenRouter, the note you ask about goes from your browser straight to that provider. The key stays on your device.
- Voice typing: Chrome and Edge may use their own speech service. KnotJot asks before that is used.
This website
What you type is saved on your device, or in your own Google Drive if you connect it. It doesn't pass through our servers, and we have no copy of it. We couldn't read your notes if we wanted to, or if someone compelled us to. That isn't a promise about our conduct; it's how KnotJot is built.
The website itself is served by Cloudflare, which handles the usual connection data (like your IP address) to deliver pages and keep the site safe.
If you write to us
The contact form and the "tell me when" box keep the name, email and message you send, so we can reply. Ask us to delete them any time on the contact page.
